DMB got their mojo back!
The band and I have been fans since the early 90s when we first heard them. We really looked forward to a new place to rock with the band and planned a show or two each year, unless family obligations would get in the way. But then something happened...maybe the band changed or we changed, but DMB just wasn't as much fun as the early days. There were some memorable shows, especially at Alpine Valley, but the luster was gone. For the most part, the band did not look like they were having fun. We were at Bristow, VA back in 2002, thinking it would be a special concert being close to their home, but we were wrong. The band started right at 8 pm even though half the crowd was still on the highway, and the band looked angry. I thought for sure that DMB was done.
Last night was different. There was something special in the air in Virginia Beach because the entire band was dead on. The setlist had flow and the songs had life. The band got their mojo back. They rocked the place for a good 2 hours and 40 minutes with very little 'stage delay'; each song went right into the next. Incredible! We have been in the front rows three times and were at the Alpine Valley Live Trax show, but musically, this was the best of the 18 shows we have seen!
The Virginia Beach area is a great place to bring the family or party, but the local authorities need to tone it down a bit. Let people have fun in the parking lot; stop harassing people about tailgating. As long as they are not over the top (stupid drunk/high), leave them alone. These fans are bringing good hard-earned money into your community; they can always take the show somewhere else.
